Jean-Pierre de Rothschild
Native French-European and educated at British universities in both economics and astrophysics, Jean-Pierre
was originally an international banker operating in the Pacific Rim and Europe. Having learned from studying
the European Masters, he today draws from diverse international influences and inspirations to create vibrant
abstract and impressionistic subjects, helping to create a strong "optimistic and uplifting" mood.
As a rising star on the contemporary art scene, Jean-Pierre divides his time between the Studios in San
Francisco and France where he has become popular among "nouveau monde contemporary" thinkers, with a
distinctive style that evokes forward movement, bold lines, and an explosion of vibrant colours that is
affirming and life awakening!

Jean-Pierre’s paintings require the active participation of the viewer, and allow many points of entry to do so. Some are large, at a human scale, inviting complete immersion. Jean-Pierre is interested in the physics and understanding of space--natural, architectural, and theoretical. A keen observer notices dramatic palette knife technique with heavy paints producing incredible boldness and texture of unusual intensity. The palette strokes make surfaces dance with light while bright colours project delicate nuances. Broad, sweeping gestures provide motion and abstractions that may inspire the thought of an emotion, rhythm, or storm. Smaller, more controlled strokes create patterns and shapes that are recognizable, such as body parts or abstract flowers. Jean-Pierre himself is evident in the physicality of painting. His gestures are left open for interpretation and interaction on physical and cerebral levels. (Th. Blackthorn, London)

"My objective is to capture the energy and character of the subject, rather than a realistic representation. Focusing on Colour, flow and form, I often
resist the lure of detail. This allows the viewer the freedom to interpret the artwork in their own way, not bound by my interpretation or outside influences.
Many of my canvases have negative space purposely left open, giving us the feeling of greater depth.
Some concepts have been traveling with me for many years before i am ready to finally paint them. I like to celebrate life and how interconnected we are.
Nature and flowers are a wonderful medium to illustrate this."
"I use nature merely as a starting block. I ask myself the question if this plant or flower were a person: what would it sound like? How would it move?
What would it want to comunicate? They are the stages of human life, each element of the bouquet symbolising man's place in the universe. Light splitting
into colours, separating into geometric striations, generating life forms." (Jean-Pierre)
I ponder the question: does this painting transport me to a different place in space and time? Does it
take me away into a different world where my mood changes?
" There is always a clear and concrete moment when i know a work is finished. After weeks of work i
suddenly know that the painting is complete when it has become independent of me. In that moment,
the painting doesn't need me any more and has become...Art"
