1. A "Commission" is a special opportunity to have art personalised to colour, size and
subject matter. This process connects the art collector in the closest possible way with their art
and makes the experience unique
2. "First Contact" is a meeting of the minds between collector and artist. Much attention is
paid to the desires and expectations of the collector. This is really a simple process where a
consultative approach works best. Whether this process is started in a gallery or directly via the
artist studio, the principle and guidelines below remain basically the same.
3. "Lay of the Land" It can be helpful to observe the future location of the artwork..
Alternatively, digital pictures of the location sent via email work also. Ideas are formulated based
on available size, lighting and various other decorum issues. Digital pictures are taken for future
reference and idea formulation.
1. Size: starting at 24" by higher. ie. 24"x48" etc. Largest to date: 7 foot by 21 feet!
2 Shape and Direction (Square, Rectangular, Horizontal or Vertical)
3. Predominant colours and hues: (amount and distribution)
4. Subject matter (Landscape, waterscape, Florals, Mindscapes, Abstracts, etc)
5. Overall movement, mood and flow of the painting.
6. ETA (estimated times of arrivals) time frames are discussed
4. "How Much?" Art works are neither sold by the linear inch nor are they priced on
subject matter. You will be surprised to hear that contrary to industry standards, i do not
increase my price for commissioned art works. Instead, i maintain a price range of what you
would normally have found in the Gallery for my work. Commissions can originate in Galleries.
The workflow process and the artistic integrity of the art works remain the artist's responsibility.
5. A "Deposit" of 50% of the investment of the painting starts the process. This part is non
refundable.
6. "Time frame" averages between 6 to 10 weeks on most works during most of the year.
Winter season's in South of France and California are similar as far as humidity and
temperatures are concerned.
7. "Certificate of Authenticity" is provided to the client upon completion of Registry. All
my works are originals, the largest of which are registered in an international clearing bank in
Switzerland. Bravo...you are now the proud owner of a deRothschild painting!
8. "Provenance" from the French provenir, "to come from", means the origin, or the
source,or the history of the creator. As this was not common practice in old days, some
paintings today have dubious origins and the exact artist is often unclear. As is the case of
some Jackson Pollocks and Carravagios. All my art works are number encoded, signed and
titled on the back of every canvas. Great importance is attached to carefully chosen titles. My
handwritten information has the added benefit of becoming the unique Certificate of Authenticity.
9. "Sneak Prevues?...don't work well for the following reasons:
My work is of a highly abstract and impressionistic nature, and is truly the last 10% that pull the
entire painting together and make sense to the viewer.
Digital photography, only gives a vague “illusion” of what it might look like up close. Many have
commented that photographs do not show the energy and life of my paintings. “Nice” as those
pictures on the website may be, they are “stunning” in real life!
It spoils the unveiling and surprise showing. A “First Impression” is a lasting one. For you will
never get another chance a that First Impression.
10. Finished...or is it?
" There is always a clear and concrete moment when i know a work is finished. After weeks of
work i suddenly know that the painting is complete when it has become independent of me. In
that moment, the painting doesn't need me any more and has become...Art... and i am ready to
part with it"
